If nothing beats the thrill of swooshing down a mountain more than by ski or snowboard, then this is ski insurance review for you.

Whether you’re skiing, snowboarding, mountaineering, or hiking, the reality is that you’re an adventurous soul and comparing the best travel insurance plans for an outdoor sport enthusiast like yourself should be like a walk in the park.

Putting yourself on the line shouldn’t come at a premium and finding the perfect ski insurance policy is definitely possible.

The problem is that most companies aren’t willing to take the risk and insure adventure sports in their policies. That said, there are more than a few companies willing to bet that you’ll do fine and we’re reviewing a few that we feel are some of the best of the bunch if you need adventure or ski travel insurance.

Policies and coverage can change at any time, without warning. This article is only intended as general advice. Please check your own policy carefully. Read the terms and conditions of policy wording and description of coverage to decide if the policy you choose is right for you.

Unfortunately we’re still working on this review section and will be providing a complete list to compare them with shortly.

For now, you can’t go wrong with looking into a World Nomads (Lonely Planet’s) policy or 1Cover Travel Insurance. Both cover numerous adventure sports and with World Nomads you can opt for extra insurance coverage for even the most extreme activities.

Give them a try below to get a quick quote and we’ll add the other companies once we’ve had a chance to properly review them.

World Nomads Ski Insurance

Started in Australia many moons ago and the perennial favourite of Lonely Planet wanderers, they’re no strangers to adventure sports and are one of the best travel insurance companies that cover adventure sports like skiing and snowboarding. You can read our review of them here.

If you’re a serious adventurous type, you may want to add on extra coverage for dangerous sports and activities. World Nomads offers three different levels of cover.

Level 2 covers things like American football, martial arts and indoor ice hockey. Level 3 includes a Standard Package and an Explorer Package, and covers everything from trapeze to snow tubing to cavern diving to skydiving to skiing and snowboarding.

By default, both the World Nomads Standard and Explorer plan automatically include Level 1 Adventure sports, work, study & volunteer coverage. Level 1 coverage includes less dangerous activities like air guitar (we’re not kidding) and snorkelling, and (surprisingly!) also includes bungee jumping.

1Cover Travel Insurance Ski Insurance

Based out of Auckland, they’re a local company backed by Allianz Global, one of the biggest underwriters in the world.

1Cover Travel Insurance New Zealand offers ski and snowboard specific benefits as part of all their plans such as helicopter rescue and piste closure. It even offers bad weather and avalanche closure benefits.

They’re a little pricier than World Nomads for their everyday plans however once you factor the extra charges for Level 2 and Level 3 coverage that World Nomads charges, 1Cover really starts to shine.
