Travel Insurance Direct NZ is one of New Zealand’s most popular travel insurance companies.  In this Travel Insurance Direct review, we give you both the good and bad, and give you a quick look at the plans they offer.

They have multiple plans for all your needs including comprehensive, +55 and backpackers.

Advantages/The Good

  • Simple, easy to use website
  • Kids travel free (dependent children or grandchildren under the age of 21 at the date of policy issue who are travelling with you)

Disadvantages/Drawbacks

  • You can’t make a claim online – you can only claim by downloading the form
  • Their website and quote system may be a little too simplistic. If you’re looking for ski insurance, for example, there’s no direct link on the main page. Instead, you need to look halfway down your quote to see that ski insurance is automatically included.

Travel Insurance Direct Coupon

You can often get a Travel Insurance Direct discount or coupon by searching for a valid Travel Insurance Direct Campaign Code.

Policies and coverage can change at any time, without warning. This article is only intended as general advice. Please check your own policy carefully. Read the terms and conditions of policy wording and description of coverage to decide if the policy you choose is right for you.

When we wrote this post, the Travel Insurance Direct coupon that worked for us was TIDTHANKS. It gave us a 10% discount. You can enter the discount code on the second page of your quote, in the Quote Summary section.

Travel Insurance Direct Plans

Travel Insurance Direct offers three policies: family policies, single trip policies, and annual (multi-trip) policies.

Family Policy

The Travel Insurance Direct offers unlimited emergency medical insurance, unlimited trip cancellation with a $100 excess. Dependent children or grandkids under age 21 who are travelling with you are free. You can add on additional car rental excess, more insurance for valuable items, or pay an additional fee to reduce your policy excess.

Single Trip Plan

Like the Family Plan, the Travel Insurance Direct single trip plan offers unlimited emergency medical insurance, unlimited trip cancellation with a $100 excess. You can add on additional car rental excess, more insurance for valuable items, or pay an additional fee to reduce your policy excess.

Annual Policies

It’s a little tricky to find information on the Annual Multi Trip policy on the Travel Insurance Direct home page. Instead of offering the multi-trip insurance as an option in their quote system, you’ll need to navigate to the bottom of the home page to find a link to a separate quote box.

The Annual multi-trip policy insures you for multiple trips ( no longer than 38 days for holiday and 90 days for business) within 12 month period. You can get single or family cover up to age 75, with unlimited overseas emergency medical insurance and unlimited cancellation.  You can add on additional car rental excess, more insurance for valuable items, or pay an additional fee to reduce your policy excess.

Skiiing and Snowboarding

Travel Insurance Direct automatically includes ski and snowboard insurance on their policies.

Discounts

Travel Insurance Direct offers discounts for groups of five or more, but you’ll need to contact them directly. There are also family discounts.

The Bottom line

Travel Insurance Direct is consistently came out as one of the lowest price companies in our reviews for insurance for backpackers, domestic, and seniors insurance.

Policies and coverage can change at any time, without warning. This article is only intended as general advice. Please check your own policy carefully and visit the Travel Insurance Direct website for up to date information.
