Whether you’re travelling out of country or just a few hundred kilometres to visit your relatives, having a little extra security can be beneficial.

Domestic travel insurance policies offer insurance on things like theft or loss of luggage and personal items, cancelled travel expenses like flight costs or cancelled hotel reservations, and rental vehicle excess cover.

Tip! If you’re going skiing, many domestic policies also have optional ski and snowboard winter sports insurance. Check out our ski and snowboard insurance review to find out more.

Most NZ domestic travel insurance plans don’t offer any medical travel insurance. If you’re injured or become ill on a trip in New Zealand, you’ll still need to rely on your New Zealand publicly funded health services or the New Zealand’s Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) for medical care.

Policies and coverage can change at any time, without warning. This article is only intended as general advice. Please check your own policy carefully. Read the terms and conditions of policy wording and description of coverage to decide if the policy you choose is right for you.
